Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) project follows autonomous shuttle service connecting senior centers to Detroit Medical Center
Bestmile, the leading Fleet Orchestration Platform that automates dispatching, routing, and ride matching for human-driven and autonomous fleets, expands its partnership with Detroit’s IXR Mobility, a pioneering non-profit organization delivering services for mobility-challenged residents. The partners are launching a new on-demand transportation service for qualifying residents to and from medical appointments.
“People with mobility challenges face huge obstacles when accessing needed medical services,” said IXR Mobility Manager Ray Smith. “Advance booking requirements, long wait times, and infrequent service force many to give up. We’re leading the charge to change that by delivering a reliable and consistent transportation service.”
The new service features ADA-compliant vehicles with professional drivers and enables disabled, elderly, and other qualified Detroit residents to book NEMT on-demand using the Bestmile Traveler App. Ride requests go to the Bestmile Fleet Orchestration Platform, which sends optimized missions to drivers through the Bestmile Driver App. The platform automatically assigns travelers to vehicles to minimize ride times and wait times and maximize fleet efficiency. IXR Mobility will routinely clean the vehicles, and drivers and passengers will comply with all COVID-19 social distancing and mask requirements in accordance with CDC guidelines.
“Bestmile is proud to help IXR Mobility advance its mission to improve the health and quality of life of some of Detroit’s most vulnerable populations,” said Bestmile CEO Raphael Gindrat. “Our technology is all about enabling fleets of any type to move more people with fewer vehicles, which is even more urgent for these residents.”
The on-demand service adds to IXR Mobility and Bestmile’s growing partnership. This summer, they launched a first-of-its-kind pilot project connecting two senior centers with the Detroit Medical center using an ADA-compliant autonomous (Navya) shuttle. Additional strategic deployments should be hitting the streets in the coming months.
Bestmile’s Fleet Orchestration Platform is the only solution of its kind that supports autonomous and human-driven vehicles of any brand or type and enables them to work together as efficient, intelligent fleets. The platform receives ride requests in real-time, intelligently dispatches vehicles with optimized routes based on traffic and the rides’ destinations while allowing mobility providers to control operational and customer experience requirements. The platform also offers a complete suite of operator control systems, including mobile applications that are easily configured and branded. The platform’s APIs enable integration with operator tools and applications.
Bestmile empowers public and private mobility providers to plan, launch and operate highly efficient fixed-route and demand-responsive transportation services. A complex arrangement of advanced algorithms enables the Bestmile Fleet Orchestration Platform to automate and optimize operations for ride-hailing, microtransit, autonomous shuttles and robotaxi services. Founded in 2014 with a mission to go the extra mile for mobility, today, Bestmile’s pioneering life-enhancing mobility solutions are deployed around the world moving thousands of people every day.
